Wireless Telephony for SMBs Now Easier and More Affordable Than Ever Before

Polycom Inc, the global leader in Telepresence, Video, and Voice communications solutions, has launched its "wireless office in a box" solution, enabling small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to deploy wireless Voice more cost-effectively than ever before. The Wireless-Office-in-a-Box consists of three KIRK® 2010 digital enhanced cordless telecommunications (DECT) handsets and a KIRK® Wireless Server (KWS) 300. By offering this affordable, easy-to-deploy wireless solution, Polycom is helping its SMB customers realize the benefits of enterprise-grade wireless Voice without any costly overhead or complex management and administration requirements.

"As lower-cost handsets enter the market, we're seeing increased uptake of DECT solutions within SMBs," said Peter Hale, senior analyst at MZA. "By introducing its KIRK Wireless-Office-in-a-Box solution, Polycom offers a high-quality system that is easy to deploy, competitively priced and designed to specifically address the needs of SMBs."

The newly launched KIRK 2010 handset is a sleek, lightweight, easy-to-use, handset that offers 12 hours of talk time and 150 hours of standby time. The newest member of Polycom's KIRK handset portfolio, the 2010 enables workers in SMBs to move about their office while always remaining in touch with customers and colleagues. It offers hands-free speakerphone, caller ID, call timer, a 40-name phonebook, as well as a headset jack and a choice of 13 menu languages.

The Wireless-Office-in-a-Box also includes the KWS 300, a SIP-based wireless telephony system that is ideal for smaller sized businesses. The KWS 300 is a single-cell system that can support up to 12 handsets and four simultaneous calls. A total of six KIRK repeaters can be added to extend the coverage area.

"We are committed to meeting the wireless telephony needs for customers of all sizes, and we understand that one size does not fit all," said Sten Dyrmose, general manager for Polycom's DECT business unit. "In the SMB space, we identified the need for a cost-effective system that is easy to deploy, competitively priced and designed to fit the needs of a smaller-sized business. The Wireless-Office-in-a-Box can be tailored to each customer, so they aren't paying for more than they want or need."

Interoperability

KIRK Wireless Servers are fully interoperable with the full portfolio of KIRK wireless telephones. Additionally, KIRK Wireless Servers interoperate with a number of IP PBX systems including BroadSoft, Cisco, Digium, Innovaphone, Nortel, and most recently, Objectworld.
