Polycom Partners with McAfee on UC Security
Polycom is enhancing its visual communications infrastructure solution, the Polycom UC Intelligent Core, while also partnering with McAfee to jointly develop and deliver a secure Unified Communications and Collaboration (UCC) platform.
Polycom's enhancements to UC Intelligent Core include new, advanced MPMx media processing modules for its Polycom RMX 1500, 2000 and 4000 conference bridges. Polycom says the bridges deliver high-definition telepresence using up to 50 percent less bandwidth compared to leading competitors' solutions by support of the H.264 High Profile standard.
In addition, Polycom offers a Distributed Media Application, which virtualizes bridging resources across Polycom RMX media servers, combining them when needed for greater full-network capacity while allowing them to stand separately for what the company says is maximum regional impact and lowest total cost of ownership.
Other enhancements include the new Polycom RMX 1500, a flexible, mid-range conferencing platform designed to support branch offices, remote sites and teleworkers.
By forming an alliance with security technology provider McAfee, Polycom aims to further enhance the security features of its video, telepresence and infrastructure solutions. Polycom plans to design solutions that feature McAfee threat protection.
Using collaborative R&D, the two companies plan to incorporate McAfee's threat protection solutions into Polycom UC endpoints and Intelligent Core, as well as align monitoring and provisioning tools. McAfee and Polycom will support joint go-to-market activities including a co-selling arrangement that includes sales and technical training as well as post-sales support and service offerings, joint channel alignment and enablement, and joint marketing efforts including collateral, participation in promotional events, webinars and user conferences.
